A Great Opportunity for Young Iranian Illustrators

Linda Wolfsgruber
Linda Wolfsgruber, the Austrian award-winning illustrator, is now in Iran. She came to Iran in 2005 for a year drawing project sponsored by the government of Austria. Meanwhile, she voluntarily held two illustration workshops for 21 young Iranian illustrators in the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children (Kanoon) in Tehran. The students works were exhibited in Kanoon Gallery from 10 June to 17 June 2006. Linda and some of these young illustrators are currently involved in yet another successful project which is illustrating a Persian Cooking book. The book which is almost in its final stage soon shall be published in Austria. Three of the CBC members, Sholeh Mahlujy, Maneli Manoochehri and Ali Boozari were also among the workshop participants.
Linda Wolfsgruber was born in Brunico, Italy, in 1961 and attended the Ortisei Art Institute in Val Gardena. From 1981 to 1983 she studied at the School of Books in Urbino, after which she began to work with Gino Alberti. In 1986 their book Simone e gli animali was published. In the same year, her illustrations were exhibited at the Art Directors, Club Gallery in New York. In 1988 she and Gino Alberti were awarded the Anderesen - II Mondo dell, Infanzia Prize for the book II pacchetto rosso. In 1994, 1997, 1998 and 1999 she won the City of Vienna Illustration Prize; in 1995, 1999 and 2000 she was awarded the Austrian Illustration Prize. She also exhibited at the Bratislava Illustration Biennale (BIB) in 1995, 1997 (when she received the Golden Apple Prize), 1999 and 2003. She was nominated for Hans Christian Andersen Award twice in 2002 and 2004. She has taught illustration on the summer courses organized in Sarmede, Italy for a number of years. She lives and works in Vienna, Austria.
